COWI has been involved in JI/CDM project activities since early 1990s, both within evaluating various JI/CDM projects as well as development of methodology and preparation of Project Design Documents within a number of energy project types.
COWI has started to develop the first district heating methodology in the world based on Chinese two projects under the Kyoto Mechanism from early 2004,and successfully approved by UNFCCC Executive Board and recorded as approved methodology AM0058 Introduction to a primary district heating system. Furthermore, COWI also developed one of the first versions of approved consolidated methodology ACM0014 "Mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions from treatment of industrial wastewater".
