RWE is one of Europe’s five leading electricity and gas utility companies. Through our expertise in oil, gas and lignite production, the construction and operation of conventional and renewables-based power plants, commodities trading as well as electricity and gas transmission and sales, we cover the entire energy value chain. More than 70,000 employees work to supply about 16 million customers with electricity and nearly 8 million customers with gas. In the 2010 fiscal year, RWE recorded more than €53 billion in revenue.
RWE Power AG is within the RWE group responsible in Germany for electricity generation from coal, lignite, nuclear energy and gas and leads the Climate Protection and Research and Development activities.
RWE due to its size and energy mix Europe’s largest compliance buyer and together with its subsidiaries currently stands at No. 2 in the global carbon market with regard to the number of projects.
RWE has CDM/JI project experience of more than 12 years and comprises dedicated acquisition, development, implementation and monitoring expertise. We offer this experience to our project partners.
RWE combines its core technical expertise particularly in power generation, renewable energy and supply and demand side energy efficiency, with its in-depth knowledge and experience of the CDM/JI cycle to support and develop emission reduction projects. RWE has a portfolio of over 140 projects, where RWE is responsible for the CDM/JI cycle. These projects range from N2O avoidance and usage of coal mine methane to the replacement of traditional light bulbs with CFLs and the distribution of highly efficient cook stoves in Zambia. Moreover we are engaged in one of the few already registered PoAs.
RWE offers a flexible range of cooperation models – from ERPA through to technical consultancy and investment. We offer our project partners various pricing and financial models and are willing to take CDM/JI process costs and project risks.
